When traumatic events occur people often seek out thier communities of faith. When the I-35W bridge collpse in August of 2007 the Minnesota Council of Churches was involved in coordinating several interfaith prayer services. The night after the collpase MCC worked with the Downtown Minneapolis Clergy Association to provide a prayer service at Temple Israel. A few days later MCC helped the governor's office coordinate a prayer service at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Mark which was attended by more than 500 people.
In 2008 the Minnesota Council of Churches, in partnership with the Basilica of St. Mary and the offices of Governor Tim Pawlenty and Mayor R.T. Rybak, organized an interfaith prayer service to mark the anniversary of the bridge collapse.
