Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

For the second year representatives of several Christian traditions gathered on the first evening of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity for an ecumenical prayer service. Rev. Bruce Robbins welcomed guests to the Hennepin Avenue United Methodist church for this year's service.

The Week of Prayer is an international observance which calls on people to pray for the unity of the Church and has been celebrated for 101 years. This year participating clergy included Archbishop John Nienstadt of the Catholic Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis;   Rev. Karen Smith Sellers, Conference Minister for the Minnesota Conference of the United Church of Christ; Fr. Robert McMeekin of Holy Cross Orthodox Church; Rev. Duane Fisher of Waite Park Weslyan Church; and Rev. Richard Coleman of the Twin Cities Christian Foundation. Rev. Chris Morton and Gail Anderson of the Minnesota Council of Churches also lead prayers.

Music was provided by Heart of the City Worship Band, and the Camaroon Choir of St. Peter Claver Church in St. Paul.

The service was organized by the Minnesota Council of Churches with cooperation from the Ecumenical and Interfaith Committee of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and the Greater Minnesota Association of Evangelicals.
