Tribal and Religious Leaders Consultation, held in February 2007 at Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe conference center, was the beginning of building community through deep and meaningful relationships where true collaborations can be established.
Working together, sometimes more successfully than others, for more than 40 years has provided the tribal and religious communities the reason to gather, come to know one another in more meaningful ways, and build a new platform, informed by our past experiences.
Follow-up planning is being coordinated by a group of tribal and religious staff who have dedicated their time and energy to designing our next steps. The Consultation made it clear that there were five priority areas to be addressed, not all at once:
- Building Relationships
- Youth Services
- Racism
- Getting the Story Out
- Sustainable Economic Development
