Acupuncture: the process of healing pain and treating disease by placing points of needles in certain parts of the body. It is based on Chinese traditional medicine and uses the body’s energy flow. It is practiced by licensed health care providers.

Health insurance may pay for acupuncture services IF the complaint is for pain. Be sure that pain concerns are mentioned when making an appointment or getting a referral from a doctor.

There are additional symptoms that acupuncture can effectively treat including sleep difficulties, anxiety or depression

Insurance will not pay for herbal remedies or massage, so be sure to clarify what financial resources the refugee has before agreeing to other services.
