All refugees have health insurance in the first 8 months after arrival in the U.S. This is a resource for refugees that can provide them with needed services. In addition to covering services for physical health, health insurance covers mental health treatment. It also covers acupuncture. The different health plans offer different resources. Making the choice regarding what type of insurance to register for can lead to increased resources:

Metropolitan Health Plan: For Hennepin county residents: Provides a central access point for all support services, assigns a “care guide” like a health case manager, who can help with medical paperwork, scheduling doctors appointments, housing and public assistance. This plan may also provide car seats and busters, provide a cell phone to make health related calls, provides transportation to medical or dental appointments ( not available to Minnesota Care Members) May provide basic membership at area YMCAs, and interpreter services.

UCARE: Provides transportation , interpreter services, car seats. Mental health providers can be found by calling BHP at 763-525-9919. for Chemical Dependency services call: 612-676-3200.
