Call the crisis response team if:
A refugee is very emotionally disturbed or
Is talking about killing self or others but has no immediate means to do so or
A refugee’s thoughts and perceptions are very disturbed, or
If you are unsure and need to talk with a professional
IF SOMEONE IS PHYSICALLY AGGRESSIVE OR THERE IS IMMEDIATE DANGER, CALL 911.

If the threat is immediate, call 911:
If the person says that they are going to hurt themselves or others and has a weapon or a way of hurting themselves or are becoming physically aggressive, call 911.
1. Explain that the situation involves someone with a mental health problem. (In many communities, there are police officers who are specially trained to work with the mentally ill.)
2. Tell the 911 dispatcher what language the individual speaks

Important to remember:

It is not possible to force someone to go to or stay at a psychiatric hospital unless a mental health professional determines he or she is a danger to self or others.

It is always best if an individual goes voluntarily for an assessment. Family and or friends can go with him/her.
