Volunteers of America Hmong Elder Connections offers cultural, educational and social experiences for seniors of the Hmong community to help preserve their physical and emotional health and well-being. Three programs are offered; individual help and support, group activities and an adult day service. All HEC staff are bilingual and all programs are offered in the Hmong language.
To reduce isolation HEC has established a drop-in program two days a week. Program services include:
- Health and education focusing on wellness issues
- Nurse onsite
- Noon meal
- Field trips
Hmong DayElders, an adult day service is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Participants receive daily health monitoring, exercise program, group discussions and activities and culturally appropriate food. Individuals may participate from one to five days a week.
Language/Translation: All staff are bilingual Hmong and English.
Payment/Cost: Many participants meet the guidelines for financial assistance through state, county or health provider programs. There is a sliding scale fee for those who pay privately. Financial assistance is available.
Geographical or other restrictions: Hmong elders living in Hennepin county Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Transportation to and from the program and for trips in the community available
