New Payment Option!

You may not find this as exciting as we do, but we are thrilled to announce that This Much I Can Tell You is now available online via our regular MCC Refugee Services website. Before it was only available online if you bought through other book sellers or our publisher’s warehouse. By purchasing it through the MCC Refugee Services site, more of the proceeds go to programs that welcome refugees to Minnesota. And it’s a simpler process for you, too.

You can also get a copy by stopping at our office in person. It will save you on shipping and handling costs, and you’ll get to see where we do our work. We’re located on the corner of Pillsbury and Franklin Ave (parking and entrance are on Pillsbury). The address is 122 W. Franklin Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55404.

Thanks for partnering with us! Please spread the word about This Much I Can Tell You and MCC Refugee Services. We’re grateful for your participation in the ministry of hospitality.

Gifts that Give

The holiday season is upon us, that frenzied time of feasting on traditional foods, spending time with loved ones, and, of course, shopping for gifts. But the spirit of giving is sometimes tempered by a spirit of dread and exhaustion while navigating crowded malls and trying to make emotional sense of the consumer side of these blessed days.

This year, MCC Refugee Services is happy to be able help you out a bit! Consider buying a copy of This Much I Can Tell You for your family and friends this season.  This Much I Can Tell You features 18 first-hand accounts of refugee journeys from nine different countries and includes helpful introductions for each section. With this gift, you’ll be able to share your interest in refugees with friends and family and benefit refugees in our community through the work of MCC Refugee Services. By spreading the word about our remarkable new neighbors, you are helping to create a more welcoming community.

You can purchase a copy of This Much I Can Tell You online, or by coming to our office in-person. If you come to the office, you can buy the book for just 12 dollars (and skip the costs of shipping and handling). (This Holiday sale expires after Dec. 22nd)

You’re also welcome to find the book at a local bookstore. We know for sure that the book is available at Magers & Quinn, Micawbers, Birchbark Books, and Common Good Books. If your favorite neighrborhood bookstore isn’t carrying it yet, ask the book seller to order you a copy! That way you’ll support local businesses AND contribute to welcoming refugees through MCC Refugee Services.

We’re located at 122 W. Franklin Ave, Minneapolis, MN. When you come to purchase a book, ask for Naomi or Jennifer at the front desk. We love meeting readers!

Happy Holidays!

Magers & Quinn

Beginning this week Magers & Quinn Booksellers will be selling our book! Magers & Quinn is a local independent bookstore in Uptown Minneapolis. It’s located at 3038 Hennepin Ave S.  Look for This Much I Can Tell You on their regional titles table, just to the right of the counter, and before the archway to the literature section. If you don’t see them, just ask the front desk!

Thanks Aaron, and the rest of the staff at Magers & Quinn, for taking an interest in our book! We hope it brings you many new customers. Turns out our reputable publisher and the image of recognizable Minneapolis high rises on the cover helps the book’s appeal. We think so too…

We’re on the Shelf!

We are proud to announce that This Much I Can Tell You now has a home on the shelves of Micawbers Books–a locally owned, independent bookstore in the St. Anthony Park neighborhood of Saint Paul.

They sent me an email last week to let me know the books had arrived–as I had requested–so I stopped by a few days later to snap a photo of the books on a shelf. Lo and behold, just a week later, the books had already been sold! Hans, one of the booksellers, told me they had ordered more and the books would be available later this week.

So please stop by Micawbers sometime and thank them for selling our book! In the competitive bookselling world, we are certainly thankful for Micawbers confidence in the marketability of This Much I Can Tell You. Having it on their shelves will introduce more people to the refugee situation in our world and in our local communities. Thanks for partnering with us!

Campus Connections

Colleges and Universities around the state are gearing up to welcome students to campus–some for the first time, and some for the last.  Dorm staff are scurrying to plan welcome events for their residents, sports teams are wrapping up their summer training regimens, and professors are scrambling to put the last minute touches on their syllabi.

This fall we’re going to contact professors and college staff to introduce them to This Much I Can Tell You. The stories of our newest Minnesotans matter to young adults entering the workforce because they will likely interact with immigrants and refugees in their work and personal lives. The attitudes and practices that are developed in the academic setting will affect how they interact with the world beyond the hallowed halls of academia.  Perhaps This Much I Can Tell You will serve as an introduction to students to the lives of new Minnesotans who may be their clients, coworkers, and colleagues in their post-undergraduate careers.

If you know somebody who works at a college or university, consider suggesting This Much I Can Tell You to them. Or, you can let us know and we’ll contact them ourselves. You can send your suggestions to Jennifer at jennifer.pins@mnchurches.org.
